Tous les sérotypes du virus de la dengue circulent simultanément dans différentes zones endémiques et provoquent des épidémies graves. Cette étude prospective a été menée au Vietnam dans le but de décrire les principaux facteurs de risque et tableaux cliniques et biologiques liés au sérotype et à la sévérité dans une population de 572 enfants infectés hospitalisés. Cette étude a démontré que l’épidémiologie de la dengue variait potentiellement avec le sérotype et la souche du virus. Il est donc nécessaire de favoriser une surveillance virologique continue afin de définir les facteurs de risque de sévérité de la dengue et de comprendre son épidémiologie dans le but de contrôler la maladie et de développer un vaccin. Ce travail est un outil supplémentaire pouvant être utilisé par les cliniciens ou les épidémiologistes afin de mieux appréhender l’univers de la maladie de la dengue et de fournir de nouvelles données de cette maladie en Asie du sud-est.
